on disruptive technologies in Cyber, Trust & fighting disinformation, Energy, Artificial Intelligence

30 January 2024

Stockholm, Paris, Brussels

On the occasion of the French President's state visit to Sweden, the Joint European Disruptive Initiative (JEDI) and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (SEB) announce a strategic partnership on Technology.

This partnership between SEB and JEDI includes Moonshots research programs in Cybersecurity (post-quantum cryptography, homomorphic and AI-powered cyber), in Trust & fighting disinformation (deepfakes, cognitive manipulation), and in Artificial Intelligence/LLMs (including explainable AI, energy & data-frugal AI).

More broadly, SEB and SEBx will also leverage JEDI’s know-how in interdisciplinary frontier research, such as neuromorphic computing or storage. The cooperation aims to boost research in key strategic areas and strengthen Europe’s technological leadership and strategic autonomy. Moreover, SEB and SEBx will benefit from JEDI’s largest deeptech ecosystem in all European countries, including French-based deeptech startups, leading scientific teams, technology firms and public institutions that JEDI interacts with.

"As a leading banking group in Northern Europe, we want to leverage JEDI’s Europe-wide ecosystem to enhance our technological capabilities and talents across the Nordics. Since JEDI supports moonshot research in not only cyber/computing but also in the energy/environment fields, our partnership will strengthen SEB’s efforts to become a leading catalyst in the sustainability transition“ says Nicolas Moch, Head of SEBx, adding: “through innovation, SEBx aspires to build and power financial services in new ways, and collaborating with JEDI will help us on this journey. JEDI’s deeptech expertise and long-term perspective will help us identify potential development initiatives within AI, IoT and other key technologies of tomorrow.”

André Loesekrug-Pietri, Chairman & Scientific Director of JEDI, stated “SEB´s leading position in financial services will further deepen our technological base. SEB joins the largest deeptech ecosystem in Europe and is another organization keen to support JEDI and tap into its technological brainpower and its ARPA-like methodology. This strategic partnership will support our mission to launch Moonshot GrandChallenges, and push scientific and tech frontiers around cyber, AI, energy and democracy-supporting technologies.”
