MATERIALS

GRANDCHALLENGE

Making the energy transition truly sustainable

The demand for critical raw materials (rare metals, rare earths) is skyrocketing as we decarbonise our  economies and societies. However, these metals cause new economic and strategic dependencies, and the processes used in extracting and refining them are far from being environmentally friendly.

Alternative materials, new technologies and processes are needed. Fast.

WHAT IS AT
STAKE ?

>WHAT IS THE GRANDCHALLENGE ABOUT

The Joint European Disruptive Initiative, the European ARPA,
will launch scientific & technology Challenges around:

Starting soon, we will be welcoming all proposals from the best teams globally that can provide solutions to one of the 5 Challenges listed above.

We will then finetune specific JEDI Challenges with highly-ambitious metrics for success, that will be launched in the coming months.
